‘‘You need rejection as a wakeup call’’ - Michael Oupana   Diago:     He bought his first house at age 27 from the money he received from an apprenticeship. Despite the love he had for engineering, the passion for business took over as he is now one of the successful guest house owners to live.   Michael Diago married to Matee Diago, a father-of-two, has accomplished it all through hard work and dedication.  Diago who describes his teenage life as experiential and exciting, completed his matric in 1999 where he was entrusted with leadership.   The 39-year-old, originally from a small village of Limpopo in Jane Furse achieved academically. This brought an opportunity for him to encounter tertiary education. He gained fame as he was counted among the least that went to University. In the year 2000, Diago with his best results became a student of the Witwatersrand University and studied towards a diploma in Biotechnology.   In the same ye...

‘‘The older the berry the sweeter the fruit’’ – by Simphiwe Mandla Malunga Little Sakhile had it coming that night and had regretted every single moment he had spent with the old woman, she was just a problem with no name.  ‘‘God help me, you know how much I truly want to stop doing this but she seems possessed and just won’t stop until she gets what she wants’’, as Sakhile kept praying. He heard his door being forcefully pushed but fortunately he had placed his father’s not-so-light toolbox right behind the door which prevented the old woman from entering his room. Sakhile aged 19, was a very bright student among grade 12 pupils at Jikanelanga High School, trusted by his parents as a witful older sibling.  As he came from school on his neatly worn black and white uniform with shiny black shoes, he followed his daily routine; went to place his school bag in his room, and immediately went to his mother’s room who was unemployed at the time.    As he app...
You can do it anywhere – Simphiwe Mandla Malunga South Africa is a democratic country hence I don’t see a reason why someone would be hesitant to do this. You can do it anywhere and anyhow besides closed doors, as most people prefer doing it in their bedrooms.   Someone once said that if you do it once you’re surely going to do it again; it’s like stealing a candy you always go for more. I for one prefer doing it with eyes closed because doing it with eyes opened creates a dull experience. It was during early hours at dawn whilst everyone was far asleep I on the other hand could hardly sleep as I heard sounds coming from the other dark room. The sound of that tiny woman’s voice as she continued to call out names rapidly and repeatedly took away all my sleepiness and all I wished was to be in that very same room. I remembered that she wasn’t alone in that room, whilst I was sleeping there on the floor I kept wondering if the man that had slept right beside her on the same...
Is blood thicker than water? – By Simphiwe Mandla Malunga It was midweek in the afternoon as I was following my daily routine at the school residence, right on the spot my emotions were triggered. Their absence took the same years as my age and lately they decided to reach out to me. I became inquisitive immediately when she mentioned my mother’s name, after she had consistently asked me about my roots which are foreign to me. At age twenty (20) the young lady whom had long searched for her brother had finally found him through Facebook, a social network. As I answered enthusiastically every question that the young lady posed to me deep down I knew this was my paternal sister. I was familiar to the saga that my biological father was a polygamist and a traditional healer which he still is. The little sister who caught me by surprise when she confirmed that indeed we were siblings amazed me when she said, ‘‘our father once mentioned that he has a total of thirty t...

Root of hatred   - SIMPHIWE MANDLA MALUNGA The bond between siblings, friends and colleagues has broken. Children have become orphans because of you; as long as you’re adored we will not have peaceful lives. Your presence makes the world go round as you take one’s breath with your gleaming beauty. You are accompanied with laughter, sorrow and at times hatred. Few men can testify that indeed you are deceitful as you will be with them today the next day you are nowhere to be found and some will blame it on witchcraft whilst others will blame it on carelessness. Either than that we need you, despite the fact that you continue to come in the way of neighbours doing what you know best which is causing conflict and ending all unity instead bringing up gossip between them. Saddening as it may sound a certain individual is having sleepless nights because of you; you have conquered all their thoughts because all they think about is you. On the other hand another...

I blame it on the '21st century' - Simphiwe Malunga

I BLAME IT ON THE ‘21 ST CENTURY’ – Simphiwe Malunga Just as I was sitting there crammed, wearing a long t-shirt and flies invading my space I could hardly move, taking out my bubble gum out of the pocket almost became impossible as the back seat of that taxi was compressed with people of all sizes. I fluttered and took a long glance at the people who were in that taxi, most were far with thought, supposedly they had reached our hour and a half journey.    Right there something caught my attention, I tried to look away but curiosity got in the way as this man that sat in front of me kept on talking to whom I believe was his partner.  The gentleman was sweating as the taxi was not in a pleasant humidity, as I looked at him I noticed, telling from his affection that he was a person who hardly spent time at home.  Then right before the taxi left Vosloorus to Pretoria, the man did something that caught my eye. He boldly kissed his girlfriend, then I i...

πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ πŸ˜›πŸ˜›πŸ˜›RATED ✩✩✭✭✭  7.2/10 30,013 A REVIEW OF A MOVIE RELATED TO JOURNALISM MOVIE REVIEW: The well received movie is about a young passionate journalist aged 24, ‘‘Stephen Glass’’. He received a life time opportunity of working for a popular American magazine called The New Republic few years after completing school at Highland Park High. The young and enthusiastic ‘Stephen Glass’ was everyone’s favourite around the office as he pitched ideas endlessly, being on ‘‘Michael Kelly’s’’ [his editor] good books. A nail-biting moment starts right after ‘‘Chuck Lane’’ takes over as the new editor, when he together with another publication realise that ‘Stephen Glass’ had fabricated and invented his stories. He intended to make it as a journalist but ended up losing his job as he reported fiction as facts. The movie is very interesting and has good actors. Its content is refining to young upcoming journalists. It taught me to report and write authentic infor...

THE JOURNALIST IN ME. By Simphiwe Malunga

THE JOURNALIST IN ME . It will be hard to believe but after all you have to believe because I'm not making this up, if I were I wouldn't have told you this in the first place despite the fact that it will be remarkably unbelievable since well it will be for the first time someone tells you something like this. Journalism is my calling, it first started back in the days in high school when I would sit right at the back being the clown of the class. Making people laugh and enjoy my company was in me, I would often wonder why I was so inquisitive and a noise maker at times wherever I was talking was just a relief. I would want to know why something happened and how did it even happen in the first place, as mentioned the only time I stopped talking was during my sleep not to mention the love I had for reading news publication. I have always believed I'm called to change the world either through my writing or talking to people, I just have the heart for people and listening ...

By SIMPHIWE MALUNGA ‘‘PUNCTUALITY’’ From a point of departure, according to my understanding punctuality means making it on time that has been given to you. Remember, time wasted is never regained! Keep it in mind that a second makes a minute, before you know it an hour has passed so… keep time, spend your time fruitfully-so because time is money. According to a research that I have conducted we tend not to keep time and hide behind the motto that goes ‘‘AFRICA TIME’’ embracing our irresponsibility.             ⌚ ⏰ Your punctuality defines you a person, there’s a saying that goes ‘first impressions last’ so what kind of a picture are you giving to those that don’t know you. In conclusion, one should spend time effectively and never postpone for tomorrow. If not now, then when?
