Despite the love he had for soccer, the passion for journalism took over leading him to countless achievements.  He has proven that anything is possible as long as you put your mind at it. Back in primary school, one would find Vukosi Baloyi mostly in sport activities particularly soccer. He made a name for himself at Mheho Primary School which is located in Mphambo , a small village in Limpopo.  He later discovered that the love for soccer grew even more.

Apart from him being a Tshwane University of Technology Radio lecturer, he also runs his own project called Vukosi Baloyi Foundation (VBF). The project is aimed at addressing the needs of young people through workshops, mentorship and sporting programmes in urban townships and rural areas. Dedicated and multi-talented as he is, he is best described as hard working and a cheerful giver by his colleagues, he always empowers young people to always be confident and aim high for what they believe in.

‘‘Don’t be too hard on yourself; life on its own is hard on us’’. This phrase keeps Vukosi going.  He has undergone a number of challenges. In his upbringing on a journey to self-discovery, he explains that there was a time where both his educated parents would advise him to pursue a career that will be stable since they did not see his desire for soccer leading him to a secured future. He learnt to stand his grounds although in a later stage he had to abandon his dream of being a ‘football star’. Those that know him say he has people’s best interest at heart.

He started his educational journey at Mheho Primary school in a small town of Mphambo in Limpopo where teachers realised his potential as he partook in soccer competitions both in grade 6 and 7 which gave him fame.  He describes his days in high school as awesome because he further went on with the passion of soccer by taking part in school soccer tournaments. Playing as a defender at times as a striker this meant he was improving each time on the pitch. Even from a tender age Vukosi was entrusted by teachers with leadership skills and decision making.

Vukosi’s teenage years were the best years of his life. He matriculated in 2008 at Shingwedzi High School, and then further on moved to Pretoria to further his studies in 2009 at Tshwane University of Technology where he excelled academically as he became a student mentor in the preceding year.  At age 27, the young lecturer has seen it all. He graduated cum laude for his B Tech in Journalism in the year 2014. Through his hard work and excellence in academics Vukosi Baloyi occupied a part time position as a radio lecturer at TUT. He again completed his Master’s degree in just one-year-six months being offered an M tech bursary by the Department of Journalism which he currently holds.

He is intends to study towards a Doctorate in Journalism. He is driven by ambition and wants to help create a better life for all, ‘‘help make my dream come true through young people’s lives’’.  He hopes to grow with his Foundation and create opportunities for underprivileged youngsters.
